The first Dharahara was built by Bhimsen Thapa in 1832. However, in 2015, Nepal faced a devastating earthquake that completely destroyed the historic tower. Following this tragedy, the Nepalese government decided to rebuild Dharahara, and the reconstruction was completed in June 2021.
The new Dharahara stands 84 meters tall and consists of 22 floors. In 2025, it was officially opened to both Nepalese citizens and tourists. From the top, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley.
